As summer fades, the nights grow longer, and schedules get busier leading up to year-end. With Halloween approaching, it’s the perfect time to dive into some horror stories in event tech that we’ve encountered here at Duuzra.
Alone in Singapore: The Event Tech Challenge of a Lifetime
Carly, one of our incredible project managers from Salt Lake City, faced her very own event tech horror story in her first week on the job. As part of her training, she was set to shadow a Senior Project Manager at an in-person event in Singapore, managing over 100 iPads on-site with Duuzra’s event technology. But just as Carly boarded her flight, her colleague’s journey out of New York was repeatedly delayed, leaving Carly to manage the entire event tech setup alone!
Though it seemed like a event nightmare, the Duuzra team quickly rallied, connecting Carly with our Client Services team who guided her step-by-step through everything needed to make the event a success. Carly handled everything from Wi-Fi setup to client coordination, and with help from a local Duuzra contact, pulled off a seamless event. What started as a horror story transformed into a story of teamwork and the strength of Duuzra’s event tech support.
Electrical Storms vs. Virtual Events: A Webinar Battle in Greece
Our long-standing client hosts an annual virtual event for Investor Day, streamed live with interactive webinars and event tech features like real-time Q&A. But in one twist, we encountered a true event tech terror—a fierce electrical storm hit, knocking out all power and internet at the host’s location in Greece just before the live webinar.
With moments to spare, we adapted by moving the host to the rooftop for better phone reception and making last-minute tech adjustments to focus on audio-only streaming. Backup speakers were briefed, and with our team’s event tech expertise, the virtual event went live as planned. Despite the host’s ghostly absence from video, the webinar was a complete success, showcasing the resilience of our event technology solutions.
Locked in Dubai Customs: Event Tech Meets Border Control
Holly, another outstanding project manager, faced her own event tech horror story en route to an in-person event in Dubai with a shipment of 100 iPads essential for the event experience. After multiple cancelled flights, Holly found herself scrambling through customs with our event tech equipment held up at the airport. A nightmare scenario for any event tech setup!
With relentless effort and help from local contacts, Holly successfully retrieved the iPads just in time, staying late with the client to ensure each device was configured for the next day’s event. Thanks to her dedication, the event went flawlessly—no one knew of the event tech horrors averted behind the scenes.
Stories from hosts who forget to charge their devices and unexpectedly drop off a live webinar, to powercuts and logistical nightmares, remind us that while challenges in event tech are unavoidable, it’s all about resilience and adaptability. At Duuzra, with our experience with both in-person and virtual events ensures we deliver, no matter the frightful hurdles.
